Abstract: DS/SSMA (Direct-sequence spread-spectrum multiple-access) technology has become a cornerstone of modern wireless communication infrastructure, enabling concurrent transmissions for multiple users over shared bandwidth. This study examines how multiple access interference (MAI) degrades DS/SSMA performance, with particular emphasis on the bit error rate (BER) metric. A simulation framework developed in MATLAB is employed to systematically assess the contributions of spreading code type, chip waveform selection, and code length under both synchronous and asynchronous operating conditions. Simulation outcomes reveal that Gold codes consistently yield lower BER than aperiodic random codes in synchronous configurations. In contrast, alternative chip waveform shaping techniques such as Blackman and Lanczos pulses offer minimal performance gains across both network synchronization modes.
