Abstract: Under compression and elevated temperatures, carbon or stainless steel columns lose stiffness and strength, leading to earlier global and local buckling and failure. In this work, the main aim is to present an analytical and numerical method that links the column theory to the buckling response at elevated temperatures. Various parametric studies are shown to compare the critical buckling load between the analytical and numerical results using the finite element method. Columns under compression at different temperatures (20, 400, 600 and 800 ºC) are assessed. The main goal is to demonstrate that using the finite element method offers an alternative approach for studies involving different materials and shape configurations.
