Blockchain Adoption in Energy Markets:
Efficiency, Transparency, and Decentralization

Abstract: Blockchain technology has developed into an evolving innovation with uses that extend well past cryptocurrency. It can create substantial change within the energy sector, providing the opportunity to improve efficiency, transparency, and decentralization. The objective of this study to conduct a comprehensive bibliography and critical review of published materials using state-of-the-art statistical and simulation techniques to increase the reliability of the results. The study examined relationships between publication trends and various external drivers (i.e., funding, policy changes, technological advancements) using regression models. Sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, bootstrap confidence intervals, and agent-based modeling of diffusion pathways conducted to test the robustness of findings. Results indicate the existence of three primary clusters: 1) renewable energy and sustainability; 2) blockchain adoption frameworks and governance; and 3) digital technologies and integration. The practical implications of these findings include policy tools for enabling blockchain-enabled renewable energy integration; and grid automation; and developer priorities for improving interoperability and increasing energy efficiency in consensus protocols.
