Abstract: Plant population structure and regeneration status are crucial for understanding forest ecosystem dynamics. Assessment of population structure and regeneration status is essential for effective planning, conservation, and sustainable management of forest resources. Tree seedling recruitment, growth, and survival are influenced by microclimatic, biotic and edaphic factors. Elevation is a complex combination of climatic and edaphic variables contributing to altitudinal variation. The present study investigates into the patterns of recruitment and regeneration in a montane forest from Eastern Himalaya along altitudinal gradient. It is concluded that population dynamics are influenced by a history of disturbance regimes, including small-scale disturbances from gap creation or temperature change.
