Abstract: Managing aquatic systems needs a good prediction of water movement or the degradation of organic compounds. These phenomena are simulated using mathematical models that represent the structure and function of the systems, serving as tools for hypothesis testing and forecasting. This work reviews the mathematical models used to describe aquatic systems such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, groundwater systems, aquifers, and watersheds.
