The Role of Some LPL Gene Polymorphisms with Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract: Cardiovascular burden still holds the top position for global mortality rates. Still, how exactly small genetic differences tied to lipid metabolism affect personal risk varies between different groups. One factor involves changes in a gene called LPL - specifically HindIII, known as SNP rs320, and another named Ser447Ter, or SNP rs328. Data shows SNPrs320 tends to go with higher triglyceride numbers, along with differing degrees of harm depending on group origin. In contrast, SNP rs328 usually comes with healthier lipid profiles and a lower chance of blood vessel damage. Altogether, what we know so far shows how these gene changes act differently based on where people live and their ancestry. Because of this, looking closely at genetics in specific areas - like Georgia (South Caucasus), which hasn’t been studied much - can sharpen how we judge cardiovascular risks while shaping prevention plans that actually fit the group they’re meant for.
