Abstract: Organizational alignment is now the number one predictor of performance in the dynamic competitive environment that we are working within. In this study, we are interested in investigating whether job satisfaction and organizational commitment play a mediating role on the relationship between strategic alignment and employee performance in the Jordanian Income Tax Department (JIST) Jordanian Income Tax Department. A sample of managers and supervisors (n = 180) was surveyed and data was analysed using quantitative research design with SPSS, and PROCESS macro. The findings reveal that employee task performance, contextual performance, and adaptive (modifiable) task performance are significantly associated with strategic fit. Those relationships seem to be partially mediated by organizational commitment and job satisfaction, with the composite mediation being the most relevant. Yet, given that this is a cross-sectional study based on a single firm, the results are correlational and should be read carefully. The paper provides theoretical contributions, operating the public sector through a strategic alignment approach and managerial and policy implications regarding how to promote an innovative culture, motivation, and important involvement of employees in a dynamic work environment.
