Development and Analysis of a Mesoscopic Simulation Model of a Section of a Regional Toll Road

Abstract: In this study, the authors move from previously studied microscopic models of toll plazas to the development and analysis of a mesoscopic model of a toll road section with several transport infrastructure objects with different toll collection system configurations. This paper contains a description of the simulation object, the developed simulation model, and the analyzed parameters. The mesoscopic simulation model inherits the logic of previously developed microscopic models of toll plazas, which allows analyzing their throughput capacity at various traffic flow intensity parameters. Due to the limitations of the medium level of abstraction of the mesoscopic model, its elements were calibrated using previously developed micro-models. An analysis was conducted of the distribution of the time taken by vehicles to pass through the simulated section of the toll road between the toll plazas at the entrance and exit, obtained under various traffic flow parameters.
