Analysis of Traction Transformer Losses Onboard Electric Locomotive During Parallel Operation of Four-Quadrant Converters

Abstract: The article considers the influence of the number of parallel four-quadrant converters on losses in the traction transformer on board a mainline electric locomotive. To control the operation of the converters, an algorithm with a certain phase shift of the current in the converters is used, which ensures less distortion of the shape of the current consumed by the locomotive from the catenary compared to the case of synchronous (without phase shift) control. A simplified computer model used in the study, using current sources instead of converters, is described. A comparison of simulated and experimental results is made.
