Abstract: The paper presents a mathematical model to describe the process of spreading crown forest fires. The possibility of stopping their further spread with the help of fire breaks and barriers consisting of deciduous trees is being studied. The mathematical model is a system of Reynolds equations for turbulent flow taking into account chemical reactions. As a result of the numerical solution of the problem, distributions of the fields of velocity, temperature, oxygen concentrations, volatile products of pyrolysis, combustion and volume fractions of the condensed phase were obtained. The calculation results make it possible to obtain a dynamic description of the process of propagation of the front of a crown forest fire, depending on the stock and type of forest combustible materials (FCM), moisture content, wind speed and direction, etc. The data obtained allow us to determine the necessary sizes of fire breaks and barriers to stop spread of crown forest fire.
