Treatment of Mine-explosive Infected and Purulent Soft Tissue Defects of the Extremities With Antibiotic-resistant Microflora by Hyperbaric Oxygenation of an Ozone-containing Steam-water Mixture

Abstract: Patients with consequences of mine-explosive injuries, presenting as extensive infected and purulent defects with antibiotic-resistant microflora, were treated in a surgical inpatient setting. Closure of extensive soft tissue defects of the limbs is possible using methods of plastic and reconstructive surgery, but the presence of wound infection is a
contraindication for surgical intervention and requires preoperative infection control. Simultaneously, the lack of effect
from preoperative treatment for extensive infected and purulent limb defects with antibiotic-resistant microflora leads to indications for limb amputation. In patients with extensive infected limb defects harboring antibiotic-resistant microflora, hyperbaric oxygenation with an ozone-containing steam-water mixture was employed as a therapeutic agent. The effectiveness of the proposed method for treating these patients was demonstrated. The application of hyperbaric oxygenation with an ozone-containing steam-water mixture resulted in establishing suitable conditions for the surgical treatment aimed at closing the soft tissue defects of the limbs.
