Abstract: Salt is essential to global economies due to its wide-ranging utility and necessity. However, the
changing demands in the supply of salt necessitate a careful evaluation of the status of the Philippine salt
production along with the varying challenges and constraints that have confronted them. Using foresight and
futures thinking methods, this paper examines the complex root causes of the Philippine salt industry's current state,
explores possible future scenarios, and maps out potential solutions to revitalize salt production. The results show
that several factors have contributed to the problems in the salt industry, including the exclusion of salt from
government priority programs, the mandatory iodization of salt, and the conversion of agricultural lands. The
development and scrutiny of four alternative futures reveal the need to undertake appropriate interventions and
options to save the salt industry from eventual death.
