The Effectiveness of the Roots Program in Preventing Bullying in Formal Education Institutions in Medan City

Abstract: The Roots program is a bullying prevention program in Indonesia; this program is a form of cooperation from the government with UNICEF Indonesia. This program began to be socialized and implemented in the educational environment, namely in junior high schools, high schools, and vocational schools that are members of the driving school. This research uses qualitative methods by using interview and observation data collection techniques. Based on the results of research conducted at SMA Negeri 19 Medan it states that the roots program at SMA Negeri 19 Medan, in its application in the school environment, can be said to be very good, the roots program has been able to provide positive benefits in its application in the SMA Negeri 19 Medan environment, as an effort to prevent bullying in the school environment, the roots program has succeeded in reducing the level of bullying in the SMA Negeri 19 Medan environment, but behind the good results, there are also several problems that must be improved. One of the problems of implementing the roots program in SMA Negeri 19 Medan is the lack of government attention in facilitating the activities of the roots program that has been running in the school environment. This becomes an obstacle to the sustainability process of the implementation of the roots program in the driving school environment.
