Abstract: This study examined the purposes of surveillance camera usage in multi-tenanted buildings. Purposes triangulated from extant studies were infused into closed-ended questionnaire to elicit response from occupants of the buildings. Copies of questionnaires were administered to 144 respondents with only 99 returned, constituting 66.8% rate of response. Frequency, percentages, mean score, standard deviation were the descriptive tools used to summarize the responses while principal component analysis was used to synthesis and identify the purposes in order of significance to the respondents. The mean score revealed six prominent purposes while the remaining are less significant. The principal component analysis affirmed this with the result showing six purposes having eigen-value of minimum of 1. The study suggested public enlightenment on the various other usages and benefits of surveillance technology apart from crime related purposes as this would contribute in no small measure to optimizing the technology.
