Abstract: In this paper, we consider a reduced parameter (RP) model for the effect of the drug atracurium on
the level of neuromuscular blockade (NMB) of patients undergoing general anesthesia. We propose a new
identification procedure to estimate the patientdependent
parameters of the RP model and present two NMB
control laws based on it. The first is a closedloop
law and is referred to as the totalmass
control law. The second
is an openloop
law based on the inversion of the RP model in steady state. We conduct an experimental study in
which we compare the control results obtained from the two approaches.
