Car makers were short of chips and this caused the production to drop for some models and even led to price increases. Chip shortages also promoted some makers to design lower quality models not needing so many chips. Price increases also affected the retail sector with some retail chains reducing the number of SKUs they stock and leading to empty shelf pictures being taken across the globe. Further events such as the war in Ukraine acted to turn the picture even bleaker with VW halting production for some models and petrol prices increasing to 130 $ a barrel. As a result of these developments it should be clear that the most important concern for manufacturers, retailers and distribution related professionals is dealing with the concept of rising prices and other forms of disruptions. This special issue invites academic in the field of OR/MS, international trade, economics and other related disciplines to deal with this complex topic. The topics listed is not a comprehensive list and other interesting topics could be explored.
