Study on Clutch Control Technology and Shift Control Strategy for Automated Mechanical Transmission with Magnetic Powder Clutch

Abstract: Since there is more space for the shift quality and transmission efficiency of conventional automated mechanical transmission (AMT) to improve, a novel electric AMT with magnetic powder clutch (MAMT) was proposed and studied in this project. The major technological problems of MAMT about control technology for magnetic powder clutch and comprehensive shift rules were studied based on theoretical analysis and simulation research. The fuzzy controller was designed, which realized the intelligent control for the engagement and disengagement of magnetic powder clutch when the vehicle starts and shifts. The comprehensive shift rules were created based on fuzzy reasoning and weight method. The simulation model for the whole vehicle was built and the off-line simulation was carried out. The simulation results obtained by 15-condition method showed that the built simulation model for the whole vehicle was correct. The simulation results of continuous upshift with 80% throttle opening showed that the control model for the magnetic powder clutch was reasonable and the shift quality was improved. The simulation results for fundamental shift rules and comprehensive shift rules with the specific vehicle speed and the throttle opening showed that the comprehensive shift rules created in this paper can reduce the shifting frequency and improved the shifting quality.
