Construction project delays impose substantial organizational consequences on contractors in Madinah, Saudi Arabia — a market characterized by Vision 2030 infrastructure pressures and religious tourism seasonality (Opening statement must be direct research impact from the analysis. This study advances beyond correlation-based approaches to model the specific mechanisms through which delay factors translate into reputational damage, legal exposure, and reduced capacity to secure new contracts, using a three-hypothesis structural framework. Data from N = 125 construction professionals were analyzed using Spearman's correlation, multiple regression, structural equation modeling (SEM) with Maximum Likelihood estimation, and moderated regression with mean-centered interaction terms. H1 established two empirically distinct pathways to reputational damage: a resource deprivation pathway (composite β = 0.328, p = 0.003, R² = 7.2%) and a process breakdown pathway dominated by stakeholder disputes (β = 0.263, p = 0.001) and scope changes (β = 0.183, p = 0.033), explaining approximately 13.2% of variance in REPUT. H2 was confirmed through an SEM model (CFI = 1.000, RMSEA = 0.000, χ²(3) = 2.006, p = 0.571), revealing two structurally distinct mediation pathways: material shortages generate legal exposure, which escalates to reputational damage and contract loss (MATRLS → LGRISK → REPUT/NEWCON, partial mediation), while stakeholder disputes reach contract loss exclusively through reputational damage (DISPTE → REPUT → NEWCON, full mediation). H3, testing professional experience as a moderator, was not supported at conventional significance levels (all interaction p > 0.10), though experience showed a significant direct protective effect on contract loss (β = −0.144, p = 0.030). The findings establish that relational failure — not resource deficiency — is the primary reputational threat, and that the type of delay-causing event determines which consequence mechanism is activated. The research emphasizes the "mediation" aspect of research as stipulated in H2, showing how delays actually transform into the loss of new contracts through specific organizational risks.
