The conducted literature review led to the identification of a motivation model that explains how ESOPs can affect the motivation of employees in this industry. An analysis of the available studies on the importance of ESOPs for employee motivation revealed the existence of at least one key success factor of ESOPs—psychological ownership. The empirical study includes an ESOP analysis of five computer game companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in terms of changes in the dynamics of employee productivity caused by an ESOP. One of the most important discoveries is the relationship between productivity and the structure of the ESOP, in particular the percentage of company shares that were offered to its participants.
<publication_date media_type="online"><month>9</month><day>2</day><year>2021</year></publication_date><publication_date media_type="print"><month>9</month><day>2</day><year>2021</year></publication_date><pages><first_page>1235</first_page><last_page>1254</last_page></pages><publisher_item><item_number item_number_type="article_number">115</item_number></publisher_item><ai:program xmlns:ai="http://www.crossref.org/AccessIndicators.xsd" name="AccessIndicators"><ai:free_to_read start_date="2021-09-02"/><ai:license_ref applies_to="am" start_date="2021-09-02">https://wseas.com/journals/bae/2021/c345107-1422.pdf</ai:license_ref></ai:program><archive_locations><archive name="Portico"/></archive_locations><doi_data><doi>10.37394/23207.2021.18.115</doi><resource>https://wseas.com/journals/bae/2021/c345107-1422.pdf</resource></doi_data><citation_list><citation key="ref0"><unstructured_citation>Sobociński, M., Chłąd, M., & Lewandowska, K., Aktualne problemy i wyzwania w branży gier wideo, Economics Studies, Vol.254, 2016, pp. 190–199. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref1"><unstructured_citation>2020 Essential Facts About Video Games Industry, Entertainment Software Association, 2020. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref2"><unstructured_citation>Wijman, T., The World’s 2.7 Billion Gamers Will Spend $159.3 Billion on Games in 2020; The Market Will Surpass $200 Billion by 2023, Newzoo, 2020. https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/newzoogames-market-numbers-revenues-andaudience-2020-2023/ </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref3"><unstructured_citation>Video Games in the US—Employment Statistics 2003–2026, IBISWorld—Industry Market Research, Reports, and Statistics, 2020. https://www.ibisworld.com/industrystatistics/employment/video-games-unitedstates </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref4"><doi>10.22230/cjc.2005v30n2a1575</doi><unstructured_citation>Dyer-Witheford, N., & Sharman, Z., The Political Economy of Canada’s Video and Computer Game Industry, Canadian Journal of Communication, Vol.30, No.2, 2005. https://doi.org/10.22230/cjc.2005v30n2a1575 </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref5"><unstructured_citation>Rutkowski, E., Marszałkowski, J., & Bidermann, S., The game industry of Poland, Polska Agencja Rozwoju Przedsiębiorczości, 2020. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref6"><doi>10.1016/j.infsof.2007.09.004</doi><unstructured_citation>Beecham, S., Baddoo, N., Hall, T., Robinson, H., & Sharp, H., Motivation in Software Engineering: A Systematic Literature Review, Information and Software Technology, Vol.50, No.9–10, 2008, pp. 860– 878. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.infsof.2007.09.004 </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref7"><doi>10.1016/j.infsof.2008.05.009</doi><unstructured_citation>Sharp, H., Baddoo, N., Beecham, S., Hall, T., & Robinson, H., Models of motivation in Software Engineering, Information and Software Technology, Vol.51, No.1, 2009, pp. 219–233. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.infsof.2008.05.009 </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref8"><doi>10.1002/pmj.20042</doi><unstructured_citation>Schmid, B., & Adams, J., Motivation in Project Management: The Project Manager’s Perspective.
