Title: Assessing the benefit of Robust Route assignment in case of air congestion
Abstract: The exponential growth of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) poses critical logistical and en vironmental challenges. Efficient collection routing is essential to optimize economic return and mitigate environmental harm. This paper presents a simulation-based optimization framework for WEEE collection, formulated as a bi-objective capacitated vehicle routing problem with heterogeneous pickups (Bi-CVRP HP). The model simultaneously maximizes collection revenue and minimizes operational costs, under realistic constraints including vehicle capacity, service times, and time windows. Multiple heuristic solution strategies—Greedy, Clarke & Wright Savings, and Genetic Algorithms—are proposed and evaluated. Computational experiments on a realistic dataset confirm the effectiveness of the model and elucidate trade-offs between profit, computational effort, and resource usage.
Bio: Dr. Ludovica Adacher is a university researcher in the scientific-disciplinary sector ING-INF/04 – Systems and Automation at the Department of Civil, Computer Science and Aeronautical Technologies Engineering of Roma Tre University. She is actively involved in both teaching and research, focusing her work on the modeling and optimization of complex systems, particularly in the fields of transportation, logistics, automation, and discrete-event systems.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in “Analisi dei Sistemi ad Eventi” (Analysis of Event-Driven Systems) and “Simulazione di Processi Industriali e Logistici” (Simulation of Industrial and Logistic Processes). These courses are part of the Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence curriculum, as well as the Management and Automation Master's program.
